Spooky Season: Owner of a Speakeasy
I love the 1920s. I love the fringe dresses, the necklaces, the bobs. I love Charleston dance and the idea speakeasies. I have many 20s style dresses and half my heels are designed to look like vintage 20s shoes.
And I love any excuse to dress in 1920s garb. I guess I tend to dress as myself for Halloween. This dress is handmade looks like it’s from around the 60s.
I dressed as a flapper when I was around 18, but it was a quickly thrown together costume. When I did it again, I wanted it to be good.
I also love any excuse to flex my creative muscles. I made this hat from guinea pheasant feathers, chicken feathers, a small medallion that I beaded myself, an old necklace, and a beautiful female carpenter bee.
This time around I didn’t want to be a flapper, I wanted to be a woman of power, so I decided I was the owner of a speakeasy and my partner dressed as my muscle. It’s one of my favorite costumes, and I wear different iterations of this outfit all the time.
